
Lucknow, May 6: Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel has taken a firm stance on enhancing the quality, research, and innovation in higher education. She has directed colleges to implement timely reforms to improve their performance in NAAC and NIRF rankings.
A review meeting was held at the Gandhi Auditorium in Jan Bhawan, focusing on government and funded colleges affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth. Presentations were made by various institutions during the meeting.
Discussions revolved around issues such as low enrollment rates, teacher-student ratios, curriculum relevance, and future academic plans. The status of libraries, laboratories, vacant positions, research activities, patents, publications, and collaborative research efforts was also reviewed.
The Governor instructed that a detailed list of shortcomings in NAAC and NIRF preparations be compiled. Regular online workshops should be organized to address these issues. She emphasized the need for better coordination between universities and colleges, advocating for the exchange of best academic practices.
Patel urged colleges to increase their faculty numbers, strengthen infrastructure, and ensure transparent use of alumni funds for student welfare. She also highlighted the importance of reviewing policies in line with changing times and preparing directives based on new requirements.
The Governor encouraged colleges to develop quality projects to secure more funding from both central and state governments, thereby enhancing facilities for students. She instructed institutions to adopt villages, conduct educational activities there, and honor talented students during graduation ceremonies.
She stressed the balanced use of artificial intelligence and mandated that students spend at least one hour daily studying in libraries. Additionally, she advocated for academic excursions to connect students with ancient manuscripts and Indian knowledge traditions. She mentioned institutions like Sampurnanand Sanskrit University and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, noting that preserved knowledge in such institutions broadens students’ perspectives.
Patel directed that students be taken on educational tours to sites like Nalanda University, the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, and the Somnath Temple, allowing them to closely understand the country’s cultural and historical heritage.
She emphasized connecting students with skill development, writing activities, social initiatives, and training programs, stating that skilled youth would have better employment opportunities in line with the National Education Policy 2020.
The Governor concluded by stating that the progress of colleges is foundational to the nation’s advancement, urging all to work diligently towards empowering the nation through education.
