UPSC Chairperson Announces New Provisional Answer Key Process for 2026 Civil Services Exam

New Delhi, May 19: The Chairperson of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has described the decision to release a provisional answer key immediately after the 2026 Civil Services Preliminary Examination as “a new beginning.” This initiative aims to address candidates’ grievances and enhance transparency in the examination process.

In a significant change to the evaluation process, UPSC announced on Monday that it will share the provisional answer key with candidates right after the exam concludes. This step is part of UPSC’s ongoing efforts to improve transparency and uphold the highest standards in conducting examinations.

Chairperson Ajay Kumar stated, “This initiative reflects the Commission’s continuous effort to bring more transparency and accountability to candidates. It will also make the examination process more participatory while maintaining its integrity, credibility, and merit-based framework.”

UPSC conducts Civil Services Examinations annually in three stages: the preliminary exam, the main exam, and the interview, to select top-tier officials for various services. Through the UPSC Civil Services Examination, eligible candidates are chosen for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), and other services.

This year, the Civil Services Preliminary Examination is scheduled for May 24. According to the new guidelines, candidates can raise objections until May 31 through a dedicated online portal, known as the Online Question Paper Representation Portal (QPREP).

Candidates can submit their objections along with a brief description and supporting documents from three authentic sources, indicating the correct answer key as per their understanding.

UPSC further stated, “Objections will be reviewed by subject matter experts. The expert panel will evaluate each representation, verify supporting documents, and decide on the accuracy of answers before the final answer key is published.”
