UP Ministers Assure Resolution on UGC Rules Dispute, Varanasi Celebrates SC Stay

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, have responded to the controversy surrounding the new University Grants Commission (UGC) rules. They assured that a solution will soon be found, ensuring that no one’s sentiments are hurt.

Speaking on the UGC regulations, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “Proposals placed in the cabinet will be announced after the meeting. The government always takes decisions through the cabinet at the right time for the benefit of the public. Whatever decisions are made today will be shared with you after the cabinet meeting concludes.”

Minister Jaiveer Singh also commented on the UGC dispute, stating, “You will see a solution soon. A fair resolution will be given, and no one’s feelings will be hurt.”

Meanwhile, Minister Sanjay Nishad clarified that the Supreme Court has only issued a stay and has not dismissed the matter. “The court may deliver its verdict after due consideration,” he said. Nishad also quoted Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who said the government desires that no innocent person should suffer and no guilty person should be spared, which is the right approach.

In Varanasi, people celebrated after the Supreme Court imposed a stay on the new UGC rules. One protester said, “This decision is very good for our upper caste community. We all welcome the Supreme Court’s verdict. People in Varanasi also performed havan and pooja to mark the occasion.”

Another protester expressed hope that the stay, effective until March, would be extended permanently after March 19. They warned that if the decision goes against them, they are prepared to launch a movement.
