Unseasonal Rains Cause ₹63 Crore Loss in Andhra Pradesh, CM Naidu Demands Report

Amaravati, March 21: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to prepare a detailed assessment of crop damage caused by strong winds, unseasonal rains, and thunderstorms within two days.

During a video conference from his camp office with district collectors and senior officials, the Chief Minister was informed that 42 mandals across 12 districts have reported crop damage.

It was revealed that maize crops spread over 4,840 hectares, rice crops over 1,534 hectares, and black gram crops over 310 hectares have been affected. The estimated loss from these damages is around ₹40 crore.

Additionally, it was reported that rainfall has impacted horticultural crops across 1,301 hectares in 48 mandals of nine districts. Crops such as bananas, papayas, chilies, vegetables, mangoes, oranges, and lemons have suffered damage, leading to an estimated loss of ₹23 crore. Based on the compiled estimates, officials have projected a total loss of ₹63 crore for all crops.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Amaravati, widespread rainfall is expected in the state until March 22, followed by sporadic showers.

Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall with wind speeds reaching up to 60 km/h are anticipated in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), has advised farmers to take precautions.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naidu also reviewed the supply of LPG. He warned that if the conflict between Israel, the USA, and Iran continues, it could disrupt the global LPG supply chain. A system should be established within the state to effectively manage such crises.

He directed that there should be no interruptions in the supply of LPG cylinders. The Chief Minister emphasized prioritizing supply to rural and tribal areas, educational institutions, temples, community kitchens, and anganwadis.

Naidu suggested focusing on alternative options like induction stoves and PNG. He also instructed officials to consult with the central government to ensure there are no shortages of fertilizers, petrol, or diesel.
