New Delhi, June 14: A tragic incident in Tughlaqabad, New Delhi, has revealed a shocking case of arson that resulted in the deaths of three individuals. The fire broke out late Friday night in a building located on Street Number 1 of the TKD Extension, engulfing the structure from the ground floor to the fifth floor. The blaze also destroyed 7-8 motorcycles and cars parked nearby. The Delhi Fire Department received the emergency call at 2:27 AM and promptly initiated firefighting efforts.
Eight people suffered severe burns and were rushed to the trauma center at AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital. Unfortunately, Pankaj Pandey, Sushila Devi, and Sonia Pandey succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Following the incident, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. CCTV footage revealed a woman entering the premises shortly before the fire started, indicating that the blaze was deliberately set.
During the investigation, a 17-year-old girl from the Navjeevan Camp was identified and apprehended. She confessed that a 27-year-old woman named Sarita from Girinagar had incited her to ignite a scooter belonging to Deepak, a resident of the building’s fifth floor, over a financial dispute.
The police then detained Sarita for questioning. She disclosed that the plot was orchestrated at the behest of Niranjan (33) and his brother Rajkumar (27), also residents of Navjeevan Camp, as a means of revenge for a personal dispute. Consequently, the police have arrested all three suspects, including the minor, and are continuing their investigation.
This incident follows another tragic fire on June 3 in a restaurant in Malviya Nagar, which claimed the lives of 21 people, including foreign nationals.
