Bhagalpur, August 27: Rising sediment levels in rivers are exacerbating the risk of flooding. Following a glacier collapse in Nepal, fears of flooding have intensified. Flood expert Dr. Vijay Kumar asserts that the glacier’s breakage in Tibet is not a natural occurrence but a result of Chinese intervention. He claims that China has redirected river flows in Tibet to exert control, a calculated strategy aimed at creating instability in Nepal and positioning it against India.
Dr. Kumar stated, “It is coincidental that we were together during the Kusaha tragedy. I hinted then that China had intervened in some way. At that time, we lacked evidence. By 2016, China itself acknowledged its interference in the Himalayan region. Those who consider this a natural event may either not understand the situation or are deliberately misleading.”
He emphasized, “This is purely a man-made disaster. The glacier in Tibet broke due to excessive pressure, which was caused by interference in the river basin. The winds that come from the ancient Himalayan regions raise questions about the Ganges, the Himalayas, and water. Any changes in the behavior of the Ganges’ tributaries are linked to events in the Ganges itself.”
Dr. Kumar further explained that interventions like the Farakka Barrage and the Tehri Dam were made in the name of development. However, he pointed out that the recent glacier break in Tibet has drastically altered river behaviors, attributing this to Chinese interference. “It is a coincidence that our NSA was in Beijing discussing border issues. Tibet was never our bordering country until China occupied it.”
Accusing China of conspiracy, Dr. Kumar said, “The glacier break and environmental imbalances in Tibet, along with the manipulation of mountains and rivers, should prompt the Indian government to engage with China for resolution. I want to stress that there has been interference in the river’s entry from Tibet into India. The flow of the river has been redirected under Chinese control. This is undoubtedly a Chinese conspiracy to create political turmoil in Nepal, forcing it to align with China against India.”
He concluded by highlighting the importance of understanding the interests of China and other nations in these regions. Since 1954, eight major dams have been proposed in these areas, attracting attention from the U.S., China, and others. India is also keen on utilizing these resources for electricity and irrigation, but public pressure has stalled these initiatives.
