UDF Set to Win Over 100 Seats in Kerala Elections, Claims VD Satheesan

Thiruvananthapuram, March 15: Ahead of the Kerala Assembly elections, opposition leader and senior Congress figure VD Satheesan expressed confidence on Sunday that the United Democratic Front (UDF) is poised for a decisive victory, expecting to secure over 100 seats in the 140-member state assembly.

Satheesan noted that the UDF coalition, led by Congress, is buoyed by its recent electoral performance. He referenced the results of various recent by-elections and the 2024 Indian general elections, where the UDF achieved a strong mandate in the state.

The opposition leader further stated that the UDF team is fully confident of victory. “We won by a significant majority in the recent by-elections, and our performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was also impressive. These results clearly reflect the public mood,” he said.

Targeting the state government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Satheesan accused the ruling Left Democratic Front administration of failing to address people’s concerns despite spending heavily on promotional campaigns.

He remarked that citizens are fed up with the Vijayan government’s approach, which squanders public funds on publicity without delivering substantial ground-level work.

Satheesan also claimed that whenever the state government falters, it is the opposition that steps up to highlight issues affecting the public and support those facing difficulties.

He added that the opposition has consistently stood with the public, raising their concerns whenever the state government made mistakes. This has helped the UDF build strong connections with voters across the state.

Regarding candidate selection for the upcoming assembly elections, Satheesan mentioned that the Congress-led UDF coalition will finalize the list soon after consulting senior party leaders. Important discussions are scheduled for Monday in New Delhi.

The opposition leader clarified that candidate selection will be based entirely on electoral prospects rather than internal factionalism. The allocation of seats will not be based on group affiliations; the candidate’s ability to win will be the sole criterion.
