U.S.-Iran Talks Breakdown Signals Need for Genuine Diplomacy, Says Mehdi

New Delhi, April 12: Agha Syed Muntazir Mehdi, a legislator from the People’s Democratic Party, has reacted to the breakdown of talks between the U.S. and Iran, labeling it a serious diplomatic signal. He emphasized that for peace, the U.S. must return to the negotiating table with a commitment to stability.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Mehdi stated, “The collapse of discussions between the U.S. and Iran highlights the urgent need for genuine and respectful dialogue. Sustainable peace cannot be built on pressure or unilateral expectations. The Islamic Republic of Iran’s insistence on its sovereignty and dignity is commendable, and the U.S. must return to the negotiating table with true commitment to stability.”

The U.S. and Iran engaged in nearly 21 hours of talks regarding a ceasefire, but the lengthy discussions concluded without any agreement.

Following the talks, Vice President JD Vance held a press conference, stating, “The bad news is that we did not reach an agreement. I believe this is worse news for Iran than for the U.S.”

Vance noted that after nearly a day of continuous discussions, the U.S. presented its final and best offer. While there were significant talks conducted in good faith, the proposal still awaits approval.

Iran has adopted a tough stance during the ongoing negotiations. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqei stated that the country has neither forgotten nor will it forget the U.S.’s past broken promises.

Baqei posted on the social media platform ‘X’, saying, “For us, diplomacy means continuing the sacred jihad of the defenders of Iranian soil. We have not forgotten and will not forget the U.S.’s broken promises and wrongful actions, just as we will not forgive the heinous crimes committed during the second and third imposed wars by them and the Zionist regime.” However, Iran has consistently reiterated its lack of trust in the U.S. throughout the negotiations.
