Ghazipur, June 16: Two additional arrests have been made in the murder case of a hotelier’s son in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Last month, 29-year-old Vineet Rai, the son of hotelier Alok Rai, was shot dead by four masked assailants in the Kotwali police station area of Ghazipur.
One of the accused, Kamlesh Bind, who had a bounty of ₹100,000 on his head, was killed in a police encounter, while the main suspect, Shankar Pandey, remains at large.
In addition to the named suspects, several unidentified individuals have also been charged. The Kotwali police have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder and have sent them to jail.
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Rakesh Mishra stated that Kamlesh Bind was killed in a police encounter related to the Vineet Rai murder case. The Kotwali police had previously apprehended two unidentified suspects—Shivam Dubey and Rahman Ali, also known as Golden—in connection with this case.
Following legal proceedings, both suspects were taken into custody and sent to jail. Mishra noted that evidence indicated both suspects were present at the crime scene and were involved in the offense.
According to officials, the two were arrested near the Chowkiya Mor Overbridge in Ghazipur. In earlier discussions, the victim’s father attributed the incident to police inaction regarding an alleged extortion racket and claimed that some police officers were colluding with gang members. He demanded police encounters and bulldozer actions against the accused.
