Opposition Voices Silenced: Ravidas Mehrotra Critiques BJP Governments Actions

Lucknow, July 23: Senior Samajwadi Party legislator Ravidas Mehrotra has sharply criticized the BJP government on various issues, including the management of the Ram Temple, student movements, Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike, and the role of the opposition in Parliament. He stated that both central and state governments are attempting to suppress democratic protests, effectively silencing the voices of the opposition and students.

Regarding the decision to assign the religious duties of the Ram Temple to five saints from Ayodhya, Mehrotra expressed hope that this collective management would prevent future incidents of alleged misappropriation of donations. He emphasized the need for a fair investigation into those involved in any financial irregularities and called for strict action against the guilty.

On Sonam Wangchuk’s decision to end his hunger strike, the SP legislator noted that Wangchuk had been protesting for a long time without any meaningful dialogue from the government. He accused the government of forcibly ending his protest and urged them to engage in formal discussions to address Wangchuk’s demands positively.

When questioned about the alleged rift between the Samajwadi Party and Congress in Parliament, Mehrotra asserted that the Samajwadi Party is consistently fighting against the BJP government. He accused the BJP of oppression and injustice towards SP MPs and workers, urging the entire opposition, particularly Congress, to unite against the BJP’s policies.

In response to student protests in Patna, Mehrotra highlighted the nationwide movements against the alleged NEET exam paper leak and police brutality at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Protesters are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and accountability in the education system.

Commenting on clashes between BJP and Congress workers outside the Congress office in Patna, Mehrotra held the BJP government responsible. He claimed that when the opposition protests democratically, the BJP resorts to using administrative and police power against opposition leaders and workers, which contradicts democratic values and the spirit of the Constitution.

On Rahul Gandhi’s announcement to showcase videos related to police actions against students, Mehrotra condemned the brutal treatment of students and youth protesting at Jantar Mantar on July 20. He described the use of tear gas and electric shocks on barricades, resulting in serious injuries to many students, as unprecedented in any previous government.

Following the demolition notice received by Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, Mehrotra stated that the BJP government is attempting to dismantle existing educational institutions instead of establishing new ones. He accused the government of targeting the university’s buildings and classrooms. The Samajwadi Party delegation plans to visit Rampur to submit a memorandum to relevant authorities, demanding an immediate halt to any demolition or destruction actions. The party will continue its struggle to protect educational institutions and oppose the government’s alleged oppressive actions.
