Bengaluru, July 23: A delegation from the Karnataka BJP, led by Opposition Leader R. Ashok, met with the Bengaluru Police Commissioner on Wednesday. They demanded immediate action against those involved in the alleged attack on a BJP legislator.
The delegation presented a memorandum to the police commissioner, warning that if the attackers are not arrested, the BJP will stage protests.
R. Ashok stated that if the assailants remain at large, BJP legislators and members of the Legislative Council (MLC) will protest on July 23 in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near Vidhana Soudha.
After the meeting with Police Commissioner S. Kumar Singh, Ashok spoke to the media, alleging that the attack on BJP legislators occurred while they were in police custody, highlighting the police’s failure to provide adequate security.
He claimed that the attack was orchestrated at the behest of the Congress party, directly implicating Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Ashok described the incident as a premeditated conspiracy.
He alleged that sharp weapons were present at the Congress office and suggested that even more dangerous materials could be stored there.
Referencing past controversies involving Congress workers, Ashok accused some individuals associated with the Congress of chanting pro-Pakistan slogans. He branded the Congress office as “anti-national” and confirmed that the BJP has filed a formal complaint, urging the police not to suppress the matter.
He stated, “We were attempted to be murdered. We have warned the authorities not to cover this up.”
Ashok accused the law enforcement of selective enforcement, noting that Congress workers have previously protested outside the BJP state office without facing repercussions.
It is noteworthy that on Wednesday, Karnataka BJP leaders marched towards the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, accusing Congress of politicizing the NEET controversy and ignoring state issues. During this protest, police detained them.
Meanwhile, a large number of Congress workers gathered outside the KPCC office, allegedly targeting senior BJP legislator B.P. Harish. As Harish exited his vehicle, Congress workers surrounded him, chanting anti-BJP slogans.
Police intervened to protect him, but reports indicate that Congress workers threw eggs at him. Ultimately, police escorted Harish safely down a nearby alley, dispersing the protesters.
