Bareilly, April 15: Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, the national president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, has expressed a nuanced opinion on the Women’s Reservation Bill. While he supports the bill, asserting that it will enhance women’s political participation, he also claims that Islam discourages Muslim women from entering the political arena due to potential threats to their dignity, respect, and safety.
In a conversation in Bareilly, Maulana Razvi stated that Prime Minister Modi aims to empower women in politics by providing a 33% reservation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. He expressed his support for this initiative.
However, he cautioned that Islam advises against Muslim women participating in politics, as it may jeopardize their dignity and safety. He described contemporary politics as a quagmire, warning of the risks involved. He emphasized that Islam regards women as the adornment of the home, advising Muslim women to maintain a distance from political engagement.
Discussing the recent dialogue between U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Modi, Maulana Razvi noted that the ongoing tensions between Iran and the U.S. were likely a central topic of their discussions. He asserted that war does not resolve issues and that solutions must come through dialogue and direct engagement. He highlighted that peace and stability foster trade, smooth daily life, and national progress. India has consistently taken balanced steps, strengthening its relationship with Iran, which he believes will continue to grow.
Targeting Trump, Maulana Razvi remarked that no one can trust his words, as his stance changes frequently. He criticized Trump’s imposition of tariffs, which he claims has harmed India’s export-import dynamics. While India has strengthened ties with Iran, he noted that the U.S. has imposed restrictions, disregarding India’s interests, unlike Iran, which remains considerate of them.
