Washington, 3 January: Former US President Donald Trump has admitted to taking a higher dose of aspirin than doctors recommend but insists on continuing his long-standing routine. According to his physician, Trump uses aspirin as a preventive measure for heart health.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump revealed that he takes a larger daily dose of aspirin and is unwilling to reduce it despite medical advice. He stated that this practice has been part of his daily routine for over twenty years.

Doctors have advised him to switch to a low-dose aspirin, but Trump declined to comply, describing himself as somewhat skeptical about the change.

Trump believes that aspirin thins the blood and reduces pressure on the heart. He explained that he prefers thin blood to avoid putting excessive strain on his heart.

Trump’s doctor, Navy Captain Sean Barbalella, said the President uses aspirin for “cardiac prevention” and takes 325 milligrams daily. The Mayo Clinic notes that the typical low-dose aspirin is 81 milligrams.

Trump acknowledged that doctors want him to take the lower dose but said he has been on the higher dosage for a long time. He also addressed health discussions surrounding him, expressing regret over a specific medical test conducted last year that sparked speculation about his health.

According to Dr Barbalella, Trump underwent a CT scan at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre, but not an MRI. The test aimed to rule out any heart-related problems and returned normal results. The White House did not make the doctor available for interview.

The report also mentioned that Trump tried wearing compression socks briefly to reduce leg swelling but stopped as he did not like them.

Doctors say Trump is in very good health and fully capable of performing his duties as President. White House officials note that he maintains an active daily routine.

Aspirin has long been used in the US to prevent heart-related diseases. The 79-year-old Trump often credits his good health to his “excellent genetics.”
