Agartala, July 15: Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Tuesday that Tripura’s organic agricultural products, including the renowned ‘Queen’ pineapple, have garnered an overwhelming response from customers in Dubai. This marks a significant achievement in the state’s efforts to enhance its presence in international markets.
Expressing his delight over this development, Nath stated that this success reflects the dedication and hard work of Tripura’s farmers, the commitment of the agriculture department, and the continuous efforts of the state government to promote organic farming and connect the state’s finest agricultural products with the global market.
He emphasized that this achievement will create new export opportunities, increase farmers’ incomes, and strengthen Tripura’s identity as a producer of premium organic horticultural products worldwide. Nath further assured that they will continue to showcase Tripura’s organic excellence in global markets.
Nath, who also oversees the electricity department, had flagged off a shipment of the state’s organic agricultural products for export to Gulf countries through an organization in Dubai on July 10. He described this initiative as a crucial step towards expanding international market access for Tripura’s farmers.
The exported shipment included over 1,300 organic fragrant lemons, 182 kilograms of indigenous organic fragrant ‘Kalikhasa’ rice, and 350 organically grown ‘Queen’ pineapples. These products were supplied by various farmer producer companies (FPCs) in Tripura.
The successful export to the UAE and the positive feedback from customers are expected to encourage more farmers to adopt organic farming, while also opening new avenues for higher-priced horticultural and agricultural products in foreign markets.
The minister noted that the Dubai-based organization is one of the largest fully operational retail marketing entities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), with operations spanning six GCC countries and a procurement network across over 85 countries. He stated that the inclusion of Tripura’s organic products in such a globally recognized retail chain’s marketing network is a matter of pride for the state, creating new opportunities for farmers and aiding in income enhancement.
Nath highlighted that the successful export reflects the commitment, hard work, and dedication of the state’s farmers and FPCs in producing high-quality organic agricultural products.
He also mentioned that Tripura recently exported 10,000 kilograms of organic dried ‘Birds Eye Chili’ to Germany, with the previous shipment on July 10 marking another significant achievement in the growing international acceptance of the state’s organic products. With the export of organic fragrant lemons, organic Kalikhasa fragrant rice, and Queen pineapples to Dubai, Tripura has achieved another milestone in the international market.
The minister reiterated that these successes showcase the hard work and dedication of the state’s farmers, as well as the recognition of Tripura’s organic farming on a global scale.
Nath expressed his happiness in announcing the successful initiation of this export shipment of organic fragrant lemons, organic Kalikhasa fragrant rice, and organic Queen pineapples to Dubai.
He concluded by stating that the state government is continuously promoting organic farming by strengthening value addition, certification, branding, and market linkages to ensure that farmers receive fair prices for their produce and improve their income. He asserted that this export initiative will further solidify Tripura’s position as an emerging producer of premium organic agricultural products and enhance the state’s reach in foreign markets.
