Beijing, August 15: The Indian Embassy in Beijing celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm. The event was attended by Vikram Doraiswami, the Indian Ambassador to China, along with numerous diplomats, expatriate Indians, Chinese nationals, and people from other countries.
Cultural programs added to the festive atmosphere, starting with women from the Indian community singing the national song “Vande Mataram.” Children performed patriotic songs to honor the freedom fighters and lovers of the nation. Heavy rain did not dampen the spirits of the attendees.
The Independence Day program began on Saturday morning with the hoisting of the national flag. Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami first raised the flag in the embassy courtyard, followed by the singing of “Vande Mataram” and the national anthem.
Additionally, in the auditorium of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center, Ambassador Doraiswami read excerpts from President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation. She emphasized that the true meaning of freedom is ensuring that all citizens can seize opportunities to fulfill their aspirations and work towards making India the world’s largest nation. She also noted that the country is celebrating the 200th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, who made significant contributions to social justice, education, equality, and women’s empowerment.
Following this, children from the Indian community filled the auditorium with patriotic fervor as they sang songs like “Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon,” “Sandese Aate Hain,” “Teri Mitti Mein Mil Javan,” “Gul Banke Main Khil Javan,” and “Bharat Hamko Jaan Se Pyara Hai.” The cultural program was led by Bhagwati Prasad, and the children were awarded certificates by the ambassador, who also posed for photographs with them.
The ambassador honored the winners of various competitions held before Independence Day, including Me Shuan Ye, the winner of the Hindustani Music (Instrumental) ICCR Talent Competition, and the winners of the “Know India Quiz” (BKJ). Certificates were also awarded to winners of the Developed India Painting, Photo, and Video Competition.
On this special occasion, attendees enjoyed delicious Indian snacks and tea at the embassy. Many were delighted to savor Indian cuisine on foreign soil.
Despite the rain, the program continued, and the entire Indian Embassy was adorned in patriotic colors. As patriotic songs played, the national flag and balloons enhanced the festive atmosphere.
It is noteworthy that celebrations were held worldwide, including in India. On this 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the historic Red Fort in Delhi.
