Major Terrorist Hideout Destroyed in Poonch, Weapons Recovered

Jammu, August 15: Joint security forces have successfully uncovered a terrorist hideout in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, recovering a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. This operation has averted a potential major incident.

Officials reported that the operation was conducted in the Draba area of the Surankot sector based on specific intelligence. A combined team from the 16 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), and the 38th Battalion of the CRPF initiated the search.

During the operation, security forces seized a cylindrical IED, a spherical IED, four smaller IEDs, a Motorola wireless set, and seven AK-47 cartridges. Authorities noted that the search operation in the area is still ongoing.

In recent operations, joint security forces, including the army and Jammu and Kashmir Police’s SOG, have dismantled several terrorist hideouts in forested areas like Savjiyan and Khanetar in the district.

These operations have led to the recovery of hundreds of live machine gun cartridges, IEDs, hand grenades, and AK-series rifles.

Additionally, soldiers patrolling near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Balakot and Mendhar sectors have seized narcotics and foreign-made pistols smuggled across the border.

In the neighboring Rajouri district, there is a strong focus on anti-terrorism operations, disaster relief efforts, and stringent security checks. Following encounters in the densely forested areas of Manjakot sector, the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police (SOG), and CRPF launched a significant joint operation.

Security forces utilized drones, helicopters, and sniffer dogs to search for suspected foreign terrorists hiding in forests and natural caves. In the Chamarair jungle area of the Thanamandi division, troops from the National Rifles destroyed another hideout, recovering ready-to-use IEDs, clothing, and essential rations.

In the Islamapur Bhangai area of Thanamandi, security forces also uncovered a concealed logistics cache containing blankets, gas stoves, food supplies, and other items intended to assist hidden terrorists.
