Beijing, August 15: This Saturday marks the 81st anniversary of Japan’s unconditional surrender. On this significant day, Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi performed a ritual offering at the Yasukuni Shrine, where 14 Class-A war criminals are enshrined.
Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi and other cabinet officials visited the shrine alongside senior members of the Liberal Democratic Party.
On the anniversary of Japan’s defeat and surrender, right-wing politicians once again visited the Yasukuni Shrine. This act is seen as an affront to historical justice, a challenge to fundamental civilizational values, and a provocation against the post-war international order. It deeply wounds the sentiments of people from victimized Asian nations, including China, which has registered strong protests and serious objections against Japan.
Japan’s refusal to apologize for its aggressive crimes, its acceleration of “re-militarization,” and its boastful rhetoric regarding nuclear weapons have drawn criticism and condemnation from both domestic and international public opinion.
Analysts believe that the international community must remain vigilant and firmly counter Japan’s reckless and regressive tendencies associated with its “new type of militarism.”
