New Delhi, August 15: On Independence Day, Harsh Malhotra, the President of the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), condemned the alleged attempts by Congress to prevent the singing of ‘Vande Mataram‘ at the Congress headquarters. He demanded an apology from Congress, labeling the incident as a “disgrace to the nation.”
Malhotra stated, “I strongly condemn this act.” He further emphasized that this incident violates the rules set by Parliament.
The Delhi BJP President insisted that Congress must immediately apologize to the nation. He also called on the Gandhi family to clarify whether they have an issue with ‘Vande Mataram’ or with ‘Bharat Mata.’
He accused the Gandhi family and Congress leadership of demonstrating a lack of respect for the nation, its culture, and the martyrs who embraced the gallows while chanting ‘Vande Mataram.’
In 1950, Parliament designated ‘Vande Mataram’ as the national song, and disrespecting it is an affront to both the Constitution and democratic institutions.
Malhotra criticized Congress for descending to such low levels of appeasement politics that they now fear a patriotic song. He asserted, “As long as Congress views patriotism as a stigma, the nation will not forgive them.”
Earlier, Malhotra celebrated Independence Day by hoisting the national flag at the Delhi BJP office alongside party workers.
After raising the flag, he expressed pride that ‘Vande Mataram’ was sung at the Red Fort for the first time. Malhotra noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the country’s developmental achievements in his address from the Red Fort over the past 12 years.
He also stressed the importance of women’s contributions to nation-building through reservations and discussed new opportunities for youth in education and employment.
In line with Prime Minister Modi’s call, Malhotra urged all young BJP workers to actively participate in the census and ensure that census forms are filled out correctly, starting from their own families to the wider community.
Prominent BJP leaders present at the event included MP Manoj Tiwari, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and several state officials.
