
Agartala, March 13: Tripura’s Governor, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, announced on Friday that the state has witnessed significant improvements in law and order over the past year. From April to November 2025, the crime rate dropped by 8.33% compared to the same period last year.
Addressing the state assembly on the first day of the budget session, the Governor highlighted notable decreases in various crime categories. Property-related crimes fell by 18.51%, crimes against women decreased by 11%, rape cases dropped by 33%, homicides saw a 26% reduction, and assault incidents declined by 10%. These improvements are attributed to enhanced policing and strict enforcement measures.
He noted that under the “Nasha Mukt Tripura” campaign, stringent actions against drug-related offenses have been implemented. Between April and November 2025, 350 cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, leading to actions against 515 accused individuals. During this period, security forces seized 22,606.50 kilograms of cannabis, 211,141 bottles of cough syrup, 606,379 methamphetamine tablets, and 1,937.88 grams of heroin/brown sugar.
Authorities also destroyed over 2.1 million cannabis plants, marking a 74.45% increase from the previous year.
The Governor mentioned that the implementation of new criminal laws has led to a rapid increase in conviction rates. This rate rose from 29.47% in January–June 2024 to 60.50% in July–December 2024, reaching 68.25% between January and November 2025.
Discussing the rehabilitation of displaced tribal communities, he reported the successful resettlement of 6,935 Reang tribal families (totaling 37,584 individuals) displaced from Mizoram. This resettlement was made possible following a quadripartite agreement between the central government, Tripura, Mizoram, and refugee representatives on January 16, 2020.
These families have been settled in 12 locations, with the state government constructing 6,678 houses. Additionally, basic amenities such as roads, schools, anganwadi centers, health and wellness centers, drinking water, electricity, ration shops, and cooperatives have been provided.
In agriculture, the government is preparing a registry of 271,000 farmers and implementing a digital crop survey in one village per district. This initiative has secured ₹260 crores in special assistance from the central government.
Under the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, ₹87.47 crores have been disbursed to 217,000 farmers, while 96,000 farmers have been insured under the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme.
In higher education, the state government is working to upgrade women’s colleges to women’s universities and the Tripura Institute of Technology to a state technical university.
