Tribute Paid to BSF Soldier Killed in Manipur Gunfire

Imphal, April 11: A heartfelt tribute was paid to Border Security Force (BSF) Constable Mithun Mandal, who lost his life during a gunfire incident involving suspected militants in Ukhrul district, Manipur. Following the ceremony, his mortal remains were sent to his ancestral home in West Bengal on Saturday.

According to a BSF spokesperson, Mandal was shot in the left shoulder while on duty as part of a ‘Road Opening Party’ (ROP) during a clash between Tangkhul Naga and Kuki militants in Mongkot Chepu village. He was rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal but was declared dead on arrival by doctors late Friday night due to his injuries.

The BSF highlighted that his exemplary courage, dedication, and commitment reflect the highest traditions of the force. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Imphal’s Bir Tikendrajit International Airport on Saturday, honoring the martyr with full military honors.

Approximately 200 personnel, including senior officers and soldiers from the BSF Manipur sector headquarters, attended the ceremony. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh, and Police Director General Rajiv Singh were among the dignitaries who paid their respects by laying flowers on the martyr’s casket. The force bid a final farewell to the fallen soldier with full military honors.

An official statement emphasized that the BSF stands firmly with the grieving family during this time of sorrow and reiterates its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region. Mithun Mandal’s sacrifice will always be remembered with respect, pride, and deep gratitude.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh condemned the incident and expressed condolences to the BSF soldier’s family. He posted on social media platform X, stating that the entire state bows in deep respect and gratitude for the supreme sacrifice made in service to the nation. Acts of valor and dedication uphold the sovereignty and integrity of our country and will continue to inspire future generations. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
