Patna, July 28: The Bihar Police Headquarters released detailed information on Monday regarding the law and order situation that arose during protests, rallies, and marches organized by various student organizations and political parties on July 25.
According to the police, a total of 694 individuals were detained during the statewide movement, including a significant number of students and minors.
The police headquarters reported that after verification, 339 minors and students were released, while 355 individuals allegedly involved in violent incidents were presented in court as per legal procedures.
Authorities stated that the roles of those presented in court are under investigation, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
Reports indicate that 91 police officers and personnel were injured during incidents of stone-pelting, attacks on police, damage to government property, and other acts of violence.
Among the injured were the Superintendents of Police (SP) from Siwan and Sitamarhi, two Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPO), and several Station House Officers (SHO). The SHO of the Gandhi Maidan police station sustained severe injuries.
The police headquarters further noted that 14 government vehicles were damaged during the violence, and one vehicle was set on fire.
Additionally, 13 civilians were reported injured across various incidents statewide.
The violence in the Saran district was particularly severe, with reports indicating that the Block Development Officer (BDO) of the Sadar block was seriously injured, losing sight in one eye due to the attack. He is currently receiving treatment at IGIMS in Patna.
The BDO of the Revalganj block in Saran was also reportedly attacked, suffering severe head injuries. He underwent surgery at Medanta Hospital and remains under medical supervision.
Police officials have stated that both officers are in critical condition and are being closely monitored.
The Bihar Police Headquarters emphasized that incidents of violence, damage to public property, and attacks on police and administrative officials during protests are being taken seriously.
It was also mentioned that efforts are underway to identify the culprits based on available evidence, and legal action is ongoing.
The police reiterated that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain law and order throughout the state.
