
New Delhi, May 24: A grand ‘Tribal Cultural Festival’ held in Delhi showcased the rich culture, traditions, and unity of tribal communities from across the country. This event was organized to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of ‘Dharti Aba’ Birsa Munda. Leaders and tribal organizations emphasized the importance of tribal identity, cultural preservation, and the challenges faced by these communities.
Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Arjun Munda, spoke with a news agency, stating, “In honoring the historical legacy of Birsa Munda and other brave tribal warriors, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the gathering and paid tribute to tribal communities throughout India. He appreciated the contributions made by tribal societies in the past and discussed the programs initiated by the Indian government for tribal welfare, along with its vision for the future. He encouraged people to face upcoming challenges while staying away from harmful influences. The minister highlighted that tribal communities should progress while preserving their cultural traditions, ideological roots, and ancient heritage, ensuring that the unique essence of India’s tribal identity remains intact.”
Arjun Munda remarked that the gathering of tribal societies from across the nation sends a significant message, not just for the tribal community but for the entire country. He noted that the tribal society holds a distinct identity due to its ancient civilization, culture, and traditions.
He further stated that the tribal community has always maintained the tradition of preserving its culture and continues to take pride in its identity and heritage.
Manohar Santhal, a member of the ‘Tribal Security Forum,’ expressed that this day is extremely important for the tribal society. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to address the development and issues faced by the community.
Manohar Santhal mentioned that a large number of attendees came from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as northeastern states like Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Sikkim. He noted that around 2,500 to 3,000 individuals from the Santhal community alone participated in the event.
Participants were seen in traditional tribal attire. Manohar Santhal remarked that traditional clothing, food, and lifestyle are the true identity of the tribal society.
Ganesh Ram Bhagat, the national coordinator of the ‘Tribal Security Forum,’ paid tribute to those who traveled to Delhi in the sweltering heat, spending their hard-earned money to celebrate Birsa Munda’s anniversary. He pointed out that conversion has become a significant issue for the tribal community, to which God Birsa Munda dedicated his life.
BJP leader Inder Bhagat stated that for the first time in the nation’s history, such a large number of tribal communities gathered on a single platform. He revealed that representatives from over 550 of the country’s 705 tribes participated in the event, sending a strong message across the nation.
