Gorakhpur, July 22: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a stern warning to officials regarding the management of waterlogging in the city. He emphasized that any occurrence of flooding will not be tolerated. The Chief Minister instructed that extensive cleaning of drains and sewers must be conducted, and additional pumps should be operational during rainfall to prevent water accumulation. He stated that accountability will be enforced, and strict action will be taken against any negligence in addressing the waterlogging issue.
During a meeting at the Annex Building auditorium, CM Yogi reviewed the district’s development projects, flood prevention measures, and drainage preparations. He stressed the importance of effective drainage management, stating, “All necessary preparations must be ensured. There should be no waterlogging under any circumstances.”
The Chief Minister directed that all drains and sewers should be regularly cleaned and kept free of encroachments. He urged a ban on single-use plastics to prevent blockages in the drainage system. Yogi highlighted the need for readiness in response to weather impacts, insisting that proposals for drain construction and repairs should be completed in a timely manner. All officials and staff must work responsibly to avoid creating a negative environment.
He inquired about the waterlogging incidents in areas such as the Rapti Complex, Gorakh Enclave, Vijay Chauraha, and Dharmshala, and instructed that drains should be regularly cleaned and covered afterward. All municipal pumps must operate at full capacity. He also called for community engagement to discourage littering in drains and to promote cleanliness initiatives, including regular spraying and fogging.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of public participation in cleanliness programs. He proposed forming teams to clean each ward, slum areas, and vacant plots, ensuring proper waste disposal. Yogi also advocated for cleanliness campaigns in rural areas, integrating them into routine activities, and ensuring participation from local representatives. Attention should also be given to cleanliness in government buildings.
Additionally, he provided directives for organizing street vendors, maintaining streetlights, and updating all CCTV systems. The Chief Minister instructed that stray cattle should not roam the streets and that dog shelters should be established. He also directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure an adequate supply of anti-snake venom and anti-rabies vaccines at all health centers, including the district hospital.
While reviewing flood preparedness, the Chief Minister insisted that all arrangements must be complete. Regular patrolling should be conducted for embankment safety, flood posts must remain active, and arrangements at flood relief centers should be well-managed. He stressed the need for special vigilance against diseases in villages likely to be affected by flooding and ensured that roads remain intact.
