Imphal, July 22: Manipur Chief Minister Yumkham Khemchand Singh stated on Wednesday that the state has faced extremely challenging times over the past three years. The prolonged unrest has severely impacted the lives and livelihoods of the people. He expressed confidence that peace, stability, and normalcy are gradually returning.
He further noted that the extended crisis has significantly troubled the common people both economically and mentally.
The Chief Minister participated in a beneficiary distribution program for welfare schemes implemented by the Manipur Department of Social Welfare. The event took place at the Imphal City Convention Center, where schemes worth ₹916.6 million were distributed.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Singh mentioned that the state government has initiated various measures to alleviate the economic hardships faced by the people. He emphasized that this effort is being carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Expressing optimism, Chief Minister Singh stated that he hopes the distribution of these benefits will provide some relief to the people.
Discussing the state’s development, he highlighted that both peace and hard work are essential. He urged all communities residing in the state to identify themselves as Manipuris and contribute to making Manipur a better place.
In his inaugural speech, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goyal mentioned that many families in the state have faced significant difficulties in recent years. He pointed out that women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, widows, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) have borne the brunt of these challenges.
The Chief Secretary also stated that it is our collective responsibility to ensure that everyone receives the care, security, assistance, and opportunities they deserve. He added that Wednesday’s program reflects the government’s firm commitment to inclusive development, social justice, and the welfare of all segments of society.
During the event, the Chief Minister officially launched the Integrated Monthly Pension Processing System. Notably, around 240,758 beneficiaries received assistance during the program. The total fund allocation exceeded ₹916.6 million, with beneficiaries receiving support under 17 different schemes from the Department of Social Welfare.
The event was attended by Minister of Art, Culture, and Tourism Khuraijam Loken Singh, legislators, senior officials, beneficiaries, and students, among others.
