Bhandara, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : A devastating road accident occurred in Bhandara district, Maharashtra, on Friday morning, claiming the lives of nine passengers, including six women and three children. The incident took place near Pimpalgaon on the Nagpur-Raipur National Highway when a Bolero vehicle collided with a stationary truck.
Initial reports indicate that the Bolero was carrying 16 to 17 people, all traveling from Chhattisgarh to Nagpur for the Teej festival. Following the collision, chaos erupted at the scene. Local police arrived promptly and, with the assistance of nearby residents and passersby, extricated the injured from the wreckage. Despite their efforts, eight individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, with their bodies subsequently sent for post-mortem examination. Tragically, one woman succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital, raising the death toll to nine.
Among the deceased, four were from the same family, while the identities of the others are still being determined. The children who lost their lives were all under five years old. Several others, including the driver, sustained injuries. The driver and three children were admitted to Bhandara Medical College, while the remaining injured were taken to Nagpur Medical College.
Dr. Lakshmikant Shahare reported that the accident occurred between Mundipar and Pimpalgaon, where a truck had been stationary at night. At approximately 3 AM, the Bolero struck the truck. Initially, the injured were treated at a local hospital in Sakoli before being referred to Bhandara, with some later transferred to Nagpur GMC.
A relative of one of the victims shared their grief, stating that all were traveling from Chhattisgarh to Nagpur for the festival, including his niece, Sarita Verma, among the deceased.
