Faridabad, February 8: The Haryana Police announced on Sunday that they have registered a case of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the Surajkund incident. Two individuals, including the owner of the ride-operating company, have been arrested on charges of negligence in ensuring safety.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced a financial aid of ₹1 crore for the family of Inspector Jagdish Prasad, who tragically lost his life during the rescue operation. He also directed officials to take immediate measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Saini stated that the government will provide a job on compassionate grounds to a qualified family member of the inspector.
In a statement, he mentioned, “I personally reviewed the treatment being provided to the injured. Out of the eight hospitalized, four have been discharged, while the remaining four will be discharged after treatment at BK Civil Hospital.”
On Saturday evening, a large swing ride collapsed at the Surajkund Fair in Faridabad, resulting in the death of Inspector Jagdish Prasad and injuries to 12 others.
The police reported that a case has been filed against Mohammad Shakeer, the owner of Himachal Fun Care Company, under involuntary manslaughter and other related charges. Shakeer, a resident of Toka Nangla village in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, was responsible for operating the rides at the fair. Another accused, Nitesh from Dharmapuri in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has also been arrested.
On Sunday, the fair management shut down all rides for a complete safety recheck, although other sections of the fair remained open to visitors.
Earlier in the day, Haryana Minister Rajesh Nagar visited the fairground where the incident occurred. He emphasized that no one, regardless of their influence, would be spared if found guilty in this incident.
A police spokesperson stated that considering the seriousness of the case, a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), as directed by Police Chief Ajay Singhal. This team includes the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime II), the in-charge of the Crime Branch (NIT), and Sub-Inspector Sanjay from the Surajkund police station.
The police are also investigating the roles of other individuals involved in the incident.
