Tragic Food Poisoning Incident Claims Four Lives in Mumbai Family

Mumbai, April 27: A tragic case of suspected food poisoning has led to the deaths of four family members in the Paydhoni area of Mumbai. The victims include a 40-year-old father, a 35-year-old mother, and their two daughters. The police reported the incident on Monday.

According to Mumbai police, the incident occurred on the night of April 25, when nine family members dined together around 10:30 PM. After the meal, relatives returned to their homes. Between 1:00 AM and 1:30 AM, the deceased family members consumed watermelon.

The following morning, around 5:30 to 6:00 AM, all four began to feel unwell, experiencing vomiting and diarrhea. Initially, the family doctor provided treatment, but their condition worsened, prompting a referral to JJ Hospital.

During treatment, the youngest daughter, Zainab, tragically passed away around 10:15 AM. Later, around 10:30 PM, the father, Abdullah Dokadia, also succumbed. Subsequently, the mother, Nasreen Dokadia, and the elder daughter, Aisha, died during treatment.

Police confirmed that autopsies have been conducted, but the exact cause of death will only be determined after the histopathological reports are available. An accidental death case has been registered at JJ Marg police station, and an investigation is underway.

In an initial statement, a family member informed the police that the family had first eaten biryani before consuming watermelon. Authorities are currently investigating the source of the food poisoning.

Meanwhile, a similar incident was reported in Giridih district, Jharkhand, where a seven-year-old boy died after allegedly consuming contaminated golgappas and chaat, leading to hospitalization for 18 others.

Health experts warn that food poisoning can result from consuming contaminated food or water, causing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant about food hygiene.
