Kolkata, August 28: Agnimitra Paul, a minister in the West Bengal government, shared her thoughts on various issues during an interview with a news agency on Friday.
She extended warm wishes to fellow citizens, emphasizing that Rakhi is a celebration of love, symbolizing the bond between brothers and sisters. Paul congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and all ministers on this special occasion. She expressed her gratitude to her grandfather and acknowledged everyone present, highlighting the love that binds the members of the government.
“Our government is committed to the welfare of all. We stand shoulder to shoulder with those who proudly identify as Indians and sing ‘Vande Mataram.’ There is no place for hatred among us today. We only speak of love and development,” she stated.
Paul also addressed the ongoing situation involving Abhishek Banerjee. She remarked that if police and corporation officials are involved, they must have valid reasons. “The police are handling the matter. It is inappropriate to comment without understanding the situation. Banerjee seems to have forgotten that his government is no longer in power. The way he previously dealt with police and corporation officials will not work now. As an MP, he should demonstrate decorum,” she advised.
Additionally, she commented on the ‘Vande Mataram’ program at Jadavpur University. Paul noted that universities like Jadavpur have historically been known for their nationalist sentiments. However, she lamented the infiltration of anti-national elements, which she believes has tainted the environment. “This situation cannot be accepted in a harmonious atmosphere. If there are disagreements within educational institutions, they should be resolved through mutual communication, not through external interference. If you live in India, not singing ‘Vande Mataram’ will not be tolerated,” she asserted.
On the topic of natural disasters in Nepal, she expressed concern over reports of 100 people missing due to recent calamities. While precise figures are still unclear, she mentioned that the Chief Minister and Prime Minister are working to restore normalcy through dialogue. “We must take urgent steps to protect our natural resources to prevent such disasters in the future. Often, these situations arise when we exploit natural disasters. If we want to avoid similar occurrences in the near future, we need to take concrete actions to conserve our resources,” she urged.
Paul concluded by referencing past incidents in Uttarakhand, emphasizing the need for immediate action to safeguard nature for future generations.
