New Delhi, August 28: Raksha Bandhan was celebrated across India on Friday. On this occasion, President Droupadi Murmu commemorated the festival at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre with children from various schools and organizations. She emphasized that the significance of Raksha Bandhan transcends the bond between siblings.
The President shared glimpses of the special Raksha Bandhan ceremony with the children. On the social media platform ‘X’, she wrote, “The importance of Raksha Bandhan goes beyond the relationship between brothers and sisters. The sacred thread of Rakhi can be tied to family members, friends, and even trees, symbolizing bonds of love and care.”
Highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, President Murmu urged the children to take care of plants and trees.
Earlier, on Raksha Bandhan, the President issued a message to the citizens of the country. She extended her wishes to all Indians, stating, “The sacred tradition of Raksha Bandhan has been an integral part of our worship and culture since ancient times. The thread tied around the wrist is considered a holy bond of protection. In many verses and mantras, the words ‘Rakshai, ma chala, ma chala’ request that ‘O bond of protection, may you remain steadfast forever.’”
She noted, “Over time, Raksha Bandhan has evolved into a heartfelt social festival where sisters tie Rakhi on their brothers’ wrists for protection. This festival strengthens feelings of affection, respect, and responsibility among siblings, friends, and various members of society.”
The President reminded everyone that the foundation of every relationship in life is based on trust, sensitivity, and mutual cooperation. She called upon all to take a pledge to protect society and the nation on this auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, and to continue advancing towards the development of a prosperous India.
