
New Delhi, June 3: A devastating fire at a restaurant in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, has resulted in the tragic loss of 21 lives. In response, Delhi Mayor Praveesh Wahi has ordered a high-level investigation into the incident. He has instructed the municipal commissioner to conduct a thorough inquiry and submit a detailed report within three days.
The Mayor emphasized that if any official or employee is found to have played a suspicious role or if any administrative negligence is identified during the investigation, strict action will be taken against those responsible, in accordance with the rules.
The fire broke out while a large number of patrons were present in the restaurant, causing panic as people rushed to escape. A total of 47 individuals were transported to various hospitals. Among them, 21 have died, while 17 others sustained injuries. Additionally, nine individuals remain in critical condition and are receiving ongoing treatment.
According to reports from hospitals, six individuals were admitted to AIIMS Trauma Center. Of these, three were declared dead, two were injured, and one person’s condition remains critical. At Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, three patients were admitted, with two injured and one referred to Safdarjung Hospital for advanced care.
Max Hospital received a total of 38 patients, with 18 declared dead, 13 injured, and seven in critical condition. One severely injured patient has been transferred to Safdarjung Hospital for further treatment.
Currently, teams from the administration and the fire department are investigating the cause of the fire. While the exact reason remains unclear at this stage, there are concerns that neglect of safety standards may have played a significant role. The administration has stated that the true causes will only be determined upon completion of the investigation, which will guide further actions.
