Tragic Fire in Lucknow Claims Lives of Young Professionals

Lucknow, June 23: A devastating fire in a commercial building in the Aliganj area of Lucknow on Monday has shattered the lives of several families. Among the more than 12 victims who lost their lives were 28-year-old Sanyam Vij and 25-year-old Surajbhan Singh. Both families are in deep shock, mourning the loss of their loved ones.

Gaurav, Sanyam’s uncle, shared that the family received news of the tragedy around 8:30 to 9 PM on Monday. “A friend called to inform Sanyam’s mother about the incident. We immediately left for Lucknow,” he said.

Gaurav revealed that Sanyam had been working in the animation industry for the past five years and visited home every weekend. With tears in his eyes, he added, “He was supposed to come home yesterday as the family was mourning the loss of his grandmother.”

Another family member raised serious concerns about the safety measures in the building. They accused administrative negligence for the disaster. “There were no proper staircases or safe exits in case of a fire. Such a place should not have been allowed to operate,” they stated.

Meanwhile, Surajbhan Singh’s brother, Sudhir, mentioned that the family is still trying to gather complete information about the incident. “We have been told that the fire was caused by a short circuit, but we do not have all the details yet.” Surajbhan also worked in an animation company.

According to authorities, 15 victims have been identified. The deceased include Shahjahan, Sukhamani Singh, Aditya Srivastava, Jwalanil Chakraborty, Sagar Pant, Nilesh, Sanyam, Bhavishya, Jyoti, Abdul Rahman, Anamika Samant, Suraj Singh, Mohammad Ammar, Tijaraj, and Somalya from South 24 Parganas in West Bengal. Most of the victims were reported to be between the ages of 20 and 24.

Injured individuals, Lavpreet and Jayant, are currently receiving treatment at King George Medical University (KGMU).

The police have filed an FIR against the building owners and others at the Aliganj police station. Six named accused have been charged under sections 105, 110, 125, and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police are investigating the safety lapses and other negligence related to the fire.

So far, building owners Ramkrishna Upadhyay, Virendra Prasad Shukla, Tushank Krishna Jaiswal, and studio operator Suresh Kumar Sahu have been arrested.
