Tragic Fire in Lucknow Claims 15 Lives; Government Announces Financial Aid

Lucknow, June 22: A devastating fire broke out in a multi-story building in the Aliganj area of Lucknow, resulting in the tragic deaths of 15 individuals, with several others injured. The Yogi Adityanath government has announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the site to oversee rescue operations. He also went to King George Medical University to meet with the injured and their families, gathering information from doctors regarding their treatment.

In a post on the social media platform X, CM Yogi stated, “I inspected the site of the fire incident in Lucknow and visited King George Medical University to meet the injured and their families, checking on their well-being and consulting with doctors about their treatment. All injured individuals are receiving proper care under the supervision of skilled doctors.”

He expressed his condolences, saying, “The loss experienced by families who have lost their loved ones in this heart-wrenching incident is beyond words. The UP government stands with all affected families with sensitivity and commitment. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant peace to the departed souls and wish for the swift recovery of the injured. I have instructed the relevant officials to provide immediate financial aid of ₹5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives and ₹50,000 to the seriously injured.”

The names of the deceased and injured have been released. Those who lost their lives include Sagar, Nilesh, Anamika, Sanyam, Anuchha, Sukhamni, Aditya Srivastava, Jyoti, Bhavishya, Abdul Rahman, Suraj, Bahajan, Jaynil Chakraborty, Mohammad Ammar, and Sumalya.

Among the injured are Jayant, Lovepreet, Mohammad Asif, Bhuvan Srivastava, Pankaj, Shailendra, Abhishek, Pankaj Joshi, and Gaurav Kumar.

The fire erupted in the afternoon at a multi-story building in the Puraniya area of Aliganj. The blaze filled the building with smoke, causing panic among students and staff inside. Upon receiving the alert, teams from the fire department, police, SDRF, and NDRF rushed to the scene to initiate rescue operations. Approximately 10 fire brigade vehicles were deployed to control the fire.

Rescue teams attempted to reach those trapped inside by breaking through the building’s rear wall. Many bodies were retrieved through this route. According to officials, a thorough search of the building has been completed, and there are no indications of anyone else being trapped. The Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, was visibly emotional upon witnessing the aftermath of the tragedy, stating he saw bodies being carried out. He emphasized that the government’s priority is to provide the best medical facilities for the injured and has ordered a high-level investigation into the incident.

Dr. Prem Raj Singh, the Medical Superintendent of King George Medical University, reported that a total of 22 to 23 individuals were brought to the hospital, with 15 arriving deceased. He noted that eight injured individuals were admitted, six of whom are in stable condition, while two are critically injured. All deceased bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a meeting with officials at the site to review the relief and rescue efforts.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his sorrow over the tragic incident in Lucknow, stating that the loss of life is deeply painful. He extended condolences to the grieving families and wished for the quick recovery of the injured. Rajnath Singh mentioned that he has spoken with administrative officials and will personally visit Lucknow to assess the situation.
