Karachi, June 28: A major explosion rocked Karachi, Pakistan, on Saturday, causing widespread panic. Reports indicate that this incident is being classified as a terrorist attack. According to the Sindh police chief, three members of the Sindh Rangers lost their lives in the attack.
As reported by the prominent newspaper ‘The Dawn’, terrorists targeted a building belonging to the paramilitary Sindh Rangers in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi. The attack resulted in the deaths of three Rangers personnel.
Inspector General of Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, informed ‘The Dawn’ that preliminary information suggests three terrorists were also killed during the assault on the local headquarters of the Sindh Rangers.
The police chief stated that it remains unclear whether an explosion occurred during the attack. He mentioned that the assailants attempted to breach the main gate by ramming their vehicle into it.
Inspector Odho added that a search operation is currently underway in the area. Commandos from the Special Security Unit (SSU), Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF), and Rangers have cordoned off the entire vicinity.
Earlier, security forces rushed to the scene following reports of heavy gunfire and explosions in the area.
According to ‘The Dawn’, special units, including the Rapid Response Force and police commandos, have been deployed to manage the situation. Police and paramilitary forces have sealed off the surrounding area.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has acknowledged the reports of the blast and gunfire near Mosamiyat Chowk and has requested a detailed report on the incident.
As per the Chief Minister’s spokesperson, he has communicated with the Inspector General of Sindh and the Additional Inspector General of Karachi, directing the police to respond promptly and gather accurate information about the incident for necessary action.
