Tragic Discovery: Woman and Newborn Found Dead in Lodge Room in Thrissur

Thrissur, June 30: A tragic incident unfolded in Thrissur, Kerala, where the bodies of a 30-year-old woman and her newborn were discovered in a lodge room on Tuesday. The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.

The deceased has been identified as Jyoti, a resident of Thrissur district. Initial police inquiries suggest that her death may have resulted from complications following childbirth. However, several aspects of the case remain unclear.

Authorities have detained an auto-rickshaw driver for questioning, who is reportedly a friend of the woman.

According to police reports, Jyoti checked into room number 108 of a private lodge on June 27 around 2:30 PM. She was brought there by the auto-rickshaw driver, who was known to the lodge staff.

Lodge employees informed investigators that they were unaware of her pregnancy when she checked in.

Concerns arose when Jyoti failed to respond to repeated phone calls. Subsequently, the auto-rickshaw driver returned to the lodge to inquire about her well-being.

After knocking on the door without receiving a response, he alerted the lodge management, who then contacted the police.

Emergency services, including police and fire rescue teams, arrived at the scene.

The room was locked from the inside, prompting officials to force entry after several attempts. Upon gaining access, they found both the woman and her newborn deceased.

Investigators believe that Jyoti may have given birth in the lodge room.

Police suspect that excessive bleeding or other medical complications following childbirth could have led to her death. However, the exact cause will be determined after the post-mortem report is released.

Authorities are also examining the relationship between Jyoti and the auto-rickshaw driver, as well as why she was alone in the lodge during the late stages of her pregnancy.

The room has been sealed for forensic examination, and both bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Police state that further actions will be based on the post-mortem findings and other forensic evidence.
