Tragic Deaths Linked to Toxic Alcohol in Pune: Illegal Seller Among Victims

Pune, May 30: The death toll from toxic alcohol consumption in Maharashtra’s Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad has risen. Reports confirm that illegal alcohol seller Rahul Kshirsagar is among the victims. A case against him was registered at the Hadapsar police station on May 13 for illegal alcohol sales.

In the Pandhre Mala area of Hadapsar, at least 13 people have died after consuming the toxic liquor. Locals reported that individuals began to feel unwell shortly after drinking, experiencing symptoms like vomiting and abdominal pain, prompting their immediate hospitalization.

In response to this crisis, Pune police have suspended three officers linked to the Hadapsar police station. The suspended officials include Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Mogale, Assistant Police Inspector Hasina Siklagar, and Police Sub-Inspector Hasan Mulani. All three were involved in the crime investigation unit at the Hadapsar station.

Investigations revealed that the accused illegally produced toxic local alcohol, mixing it with harmful chemicals for transportation and distribution. Despite knowing the potential dangers, they continued to sell the poisonous liquor, leading to multiple fatalities. The order indicated that the negligence and lack of oversight by the police officials contributed significantly to this incident.

Sources from the Home Department report that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has mandated strict action in response to the deaths caused by toxic alcohol. He has instructed the police commissioners of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad to thoroughly investigate the matter and take stringent action against the culprits. Both cities’ police have been directed to conduct a joint investigation with coordinated efforts.

Authorities are actively raiding locations linked to this case, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals so far. The Excise Department has also been included in the investigation, as officials work to determine the exact causes of the deaths.

MP Shrirang Barne stated that there is evidence of adulteration in the alcohol. He has communicated with officials, urging them to take strict action and implement necessary measures to prevent such incidents. He emphasized that people should not risk their lives for cheap alcohol.
