Guwahati, July 23: The Indian Army has intensified its flood relief and rescue operations in the most affected districts of Upper Assam. As of Wednesday, officials reported that over 700 stranded individuals have been rescued, and hundreds of flood-affected residents have received medical assistance and essential supplies.
According to an official statement, soldiers from the Red Shield Division, under the Spear Corps, are conducting round-the-clock humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations in the flood-hit districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat. Continuous rainfall and rising river levels have submerged vast areas.
The Army reported that rescue teams have evacuated more than 700 people trapped in rising floodwaters, while over 150 residents have received medical aid through field teams deployed in the affected areas.
Despite challenging weather conditions, relief operations continue. Soldiers are tirelessly working to reach families stranded in inundated villages and flooded regions.
The Army has also distributed emergency ration packets, clean drinking water, and other necessary relief materials to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the floods.
To strengthen rescue efforts, Army aviation helicopters are conducting aerial surveys to identify people stranded in remote locations and assess the flood situation. These surveys assist rescue teams in prioritizing operations in areas cut off by floodwaters.
Officials have stated that Army engineers have been deployed to help restore communication to isolated villages, improving access routes and facilitating cooperation with civilian authorities in relief efforts.
The Army has emphasized its commitment to working alongside civil administration and other disaster relief agencies to ensure the timely evacuation of affected individuals and the uninterrupted supply of humanitarian assistance.
Relief operations are ongoing amid one of the most severe floods in Assam this year. According to the latest official information, over 7.2 million people across 25 districts have been affected, with 31 reported fatalities due to the floods.
Relief camps, rescue teams, and distribution centers are operational in the most impacted areas.
