New Delhi, July 23: BJP spokesperson Shazia Ilmi has criticized the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for allegedly attempting to hijack student movements. Her comments come in response to recent events, including the Punjab pharmacy paper leak and protests led by Rahul Gandhi outside the Prime Minister’s residence.
In a conversation on Wednesday, Ilmi expressed her dismay over the actions of Congress and AAP leaders, stating, “It is shameful that they are trying to take control of the youth movement.” She questioned AAP leaders about their stance on the pharmacy paper leak in Punjab, urging them to speak out clearly. She also called on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to explain when he plans to dismiss the state’s education minister, as the public has been demanding answers for a long time.
Ilmi also addressed Rahul Gandhi’s protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence, asserting that the government is fully committed to addressing the issues at hand. “We understand their pain and sympathize with them, but we do not want them to be used as pawns,” she stated. She noted that Gandhi’s sudden decision to protest upon returning from a foreign trip seemed aimed at showcasing his concern for the youth, but she accused him of trying to hijack the student movement for his own benefit.
Furthermore, Ilmi pointed out that Gandhi is well aware of the protocols but chose to breach them by staging a protest at the Prime Minister’s residence. She reminded the public of Gandhi’s previous statements during the Anna Hazare and Nirbhaya movements, where he argued that protesters had no right to hijack Parliament. “These are the same individuals who ordered police action against protesters during their rule,” she added.
Ilmi also commented on the protests organized by the Cockroach Public Party (CJP), stating that it is a sensitive time and that attempts to hijack these protests are evident. She emphasized the insensitivity of certain elements involved in the CJP demonstrations.
