Tragic Accident Near Joka Metro Station Claims Two Lives

Kolkata, February 16: A tragic road accident near Joka Metro Station in Kolkata has resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The incident was reported by the police on Monday.

On Sunday night, a motorcycle accident occurred near the Joka Metro Station, leading to the fatalities. According to police sources, the two victims were riding from Joka to Thakurpukur.

Initial reports suggest that a car collided with the motorcycle from behind, causing the riders to lose control and fall. Both individuals succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to determine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.

The deceased have been identified as Anjan Sadhukhan, a 30-year-old resident of Thakurpukur, and Priya Das, a 35-year-old woman who was also on the motorcycle.

The police stated that the motorcycle fell after being struck by the car from behind.

Upon receiving information from local residents, police arrived at the scene and transported both victims to Vidyasagar State General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Investigations are underway to ascertain whether the motorcycle was speeding and if traffic regulations were violated. Efforts are also being made to locate the car that fled the scene after the collision.

This is not the first accident on Diamond Harbour Road in Behala, Kolkata. Local residents frequently express concerns about the poor road conditions in the area.

On February 14, Kolkata’s new police commissioner, Supratim Sarkar, stated, “Our senior police officials have assessed the situation. There may have been previous accidents here. Measures will be taken to prevent future incidents.”
