Chennai, May 10: The leader of the Tamilga Vetrik Kazhagam (TVK), Minister Aadhav Arjun, emphasized the importance of the Tamil praise song ‘Neera Room Kadhaludutha,’ which boasts a history of over a century. He stated that the Tamil Nadu government has declared it the state song, advocating for its promotion worldwide. This esteemed ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’ is traditionally played first at government events in Tamil Nadu, followed by the national anthem, maintaining a long-standing custom.
This statement from TVK follows a strong objection from the Communist Party of India (CPI) regarding the playing of ‘Vande Mataram’ before ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’ at official ceremonies. Arjun asserted that there is no disagreement regarding this long-standing practice under the new government led by the Tamilga Vetrik Kazhagam. However, during the oath-taking ceremony of the Chief Minister and ministers, led by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, ‘Vande Mataram’ was played first, followed by the national anthem and then ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu.’
Arjun criticized this new practice as inconsistent with Tamil Nadu’s traditions. The Tamilga Vetrik Kazhagam does not agree with the decision to play ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’ as the third song. He mentioned that when they expressed strong opposition to the Governor’s office, they were informed that the Governor was bound to follow a new directive issued by the central government. Due to this unavoidable situation, ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’ was played third. However, he assured that this new practice would not continue in the future. Instead, the traditional order will be upheld, with ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’ played at the beginning of events and the national anthem at the end.
He further stated that not only in Tamil Nadu but in every state of India, the auspicious song in the respective state language should be played at the beginning of official programs. The central government should take appropriate steps in this regard, reflecting the collective sentiment and unity of the Tamil Nadu populace. This is our firm resolve. Truth will prevail! Long live the Tamil language!
It is noteworthy that the CPI has strongly objected to the playing of ‘Vande Mataram’ before ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’ at this government event, asserting that the state song should always take precedence at official ceremonies, viewing the act as a blatant disrespect to Tamil Nadu’s traditions.
