New Delhi, June 12: A rebellion has erupted within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) following the formation of a new government in West Bengal. Initially, rebel legislators wrote to the Governor, asserting themselves as the true TMC. Now, several MPs have also submitted letters to the Lok Sabha Speaker, claiming the same. TMC MP Jagdish Burman Basunia stated, “We are the real TMC and deserve recognition.”
In an interview, Burman revealed that all MPs signed a letter demanding acknowledgment from the Lok Sabha Speaker. He addressed the ongoing rebellion, emphasizing the need to understand the pre-election scenario. He noted that the candidate selection process during the assembly elections was not followed, leading to widespread dissatisfaction. Each MP has seven legislators in their constituency, and there was a lack of communication regarding who received tickets and who did not.
Burman expressed frustration that no MP was informed about the assembly election candidates until after the announcement. This has caused discontent among MPs. Since 2022, the party leadership has shifted entirely to Abhishek Banerjee, with Mamata Banerjee no longer at the helm. Both leaders have been managing the party without consulting others or sharing information.
Burman held Abhishek Banerjee responsible for the party’s defeat, stating, “If he had conducted the elections properly, we wouldn’t have faced such a significant loss.”
When labeled as the BJP’s ‘B’ team, he clarified that the decision was made collectively, with no involvement from the BJP. He acknowledged that the BJP governs in Bengal, and any work would require approaching the Chief Minister. However, meeting with her does not imply they are aligned with the BJP.
He also mentioned that all MPs would meet with the Speaker on Monday to demand recognition of their party leadership in the assembly. Those who have pledged support and signed the letter will stand together.
