Dehradun, July 23: In a significant move to uphold the integrity of recruitment and educational examinations in Uttarakhand, the Dehradun police have arrested Ashish Kumar Gupta, an assistant professor at Shivalik College of Engineering, Jhajra. He is accused of leaking the question paper for the Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) semester examination.
According to a complaint filed by Examination Controller Dr. Vinay Kumar Patel at the Prem Nagar police station, Gupta shared crucial exam-related questions with students via a WhatsApp group before the UTU semester exam held on July 8. A comparison of the shared questions with the actual exam paper revealed substantial similarities. An internal investigation committee of the university confirmed that similar questions were circulated among students through WhatsApp and other channels prior to the exam.
In light of the seriousness of the case, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Dehradun ordered immediate action. Evidence was collected, leading to Gupta’s arrest. Investigations are ongoing regarding the electronic devices seized and the involvement of others connected to this network.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized that the Uttarakhand government is committed to a zero-tolerance policy against those jeopardizing the future of youth. He stated that whether it is recruitment exams or university assessments, any form of cheating, question paper leaks, or breaches of examination confidentiality will not be tolerated.
He added that due to the stringent anti-cheating laws in place and continuous actions taken, over 100 members of the cheating mafia and their accomplices have been arrested in various cases. The state government aims to provide a fair and transparent examination system for hardworking and talented youth, and this campaign will continue with full rigor.
