Patna, July 23: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary stated on Thursday that skill development is the cornerstone of a prosperous Bihar. He emphasized that this initiative will empower the state’s daughters to become skilled, self-reliant, and carve out their unique identities on a national level. The government’s aim is to not only make youth employable but also to enable them to create jobs.
During a virtual ceremony from the Lok Seva Bhawan, the Chief Minister inaugurated the foundation stone of the National Skill Training Institute (Women) in Sikandarpur, Bihta, which will be built on four acres at a cost of ₹99.97 crore. Due to inclement weather, he could not attend the event in person.
He remarked that this is not merely the laying of a foundation stone but the dawn of a bright future, self-reliance, and confidence for Bihar’s daughters. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, skill development has gained momentum in the country, with continuous efforts being made to empower women. Former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also initiated several significant measures for the empowerment of women and youth in Bihar.
The Chief Minister noted that there are currently around 1,500 skill training centers operating in the state, where approximately 1.2 million youths have received training. Presently, 138,000 young individuals are undergoing training in various trades.
He stated that training programs are being tailored to meet industry needs, ensuring better employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for the youth. Bihar has 38 government engineering colleges and 46 polytechnic institutes, offering technical education at nominal fees of just ₹10 in engineering colleges and ₹5 in polytechnic institutions. Additionally, language labs have been established in these institutes, where students can learn foreign languages such as Japanese, German, and French.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that skilled youth will play a crucial role in fulfilling Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047. He believes that the permanent campus of the National Skill Training Institute (Women) will become a major center for women’s skill development and economic empowerment.
During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Bihar government and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of India for the establishment of the Skill India International Center (SIIC). This center will work towards providing training to Bihar’s youth according to international standards, opening up employment opportunities abroad.
The ceremony was attended by Arun Shankar Prasad, Minister of Youth, Employment, and Skill Development, Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, and several senior officials.
