Ahmedabad, July 23: Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Shirsat has asserted that the future of students should not be politicized. He condemned the police action against protesters and expressed support for addressing key demands of students, urging all political parties to keep the movement focused on students’ interests.
In a recent conversation, he emphasized that students’ futures cannot be tied to any political party. Students are primarily concerned about their education and future, independent of political affiliations. This sentiment resonates with society, regardless of whether it comes from the ruling party or the opposition. Every political party in India is concerned about students’ welfare.
Shirsat criticized Rahul Gandhi for politicizing these issues, stating that such behavior is unacceptable. He noted that Gandhi is attempting to position himself among the people, but the protesters are no longer receptive to his rhetoric. Gandhi’s efforts to convey solidarity with the protesters have not been well received.
He warned that any suspicious activities at protest sites would prompt action from the central government. Such activities cannot be justified, and any harm to students is unacceptable. The government aims to ensure that students face no harm, and all activities related to the protests are being closely monitored.
Shirsat also commented on the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), claiming it was formed to advocate for students’ interests. However, he accused other political parties of infiltrating the CJP for their own gain, misleading students by falsely claiming solidarity. The government is open to considering legitimate demands from students.
Regarding Abhijit Dipke, a voter from his constituency whose child is participating in the protests in Delhi, Shirsat acknowledged the anxiety parents feel about their children’s safety. He reassured that police are providing full protection.
He reiterated that the police’s use of force against protesting students is indefensible. No party can support such actions, and law enforcement should act with restraint to ensure peaceful demonstrations.
