Kolkata, June 8: The arrest of TMC leader Jahangir Khan by the West Bengal Police‘s Special Task Force (STF) near the Nepal border has ignited significant political discussions. BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar stated that no one is above the law and that anyone who violates it must face judicial proceedings.
Sarkar emphasized that Jahangir Khan should be presented before the law, and a fair investigation should be conducted regarding the allegations against him. He noted that many individuals have acted arbitrarily and oppressively under the protection of power in recent years, and accountability is essential.
The BJP spokesperson insisted that those who have misused their positions and influence over the past 15 years must be held accountable for their actions. The party believes that establishing the rule of law requires impartial investigations and accountability.
In response to internal disputes within the TMC regarding the position of the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly reaching the Calcutta High Court, Debjit Sarkar expressed sharp criticism. He remarked that this is entirely an internal matter for the TMC, and the BJP does not wish to intervene. He indicated that the situation within the party is such that commenting on it would not be appropriate.
Regarding the presence of 25 TMC MPs at the residence of Union Minister Bhupender Yadav in Delhi and speculation about their departure from the Trinamool Congress, Sarkar stated, “I do not wish to comment on this matter. Only Bhupender Yadav and CM Suvendu Adhikari know what discussions took place. They can clarify what happened in the meeting.”
