
Kolkata, June 8: A significant reshuffle took place in the West Bengal police administration on Monday, with the government announcing the transfer of 179 IPS officers.
The transfers include around 12 Superintendents of Police (SP), notably the SP of Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas district. This area is represented in the Lok Sabha by Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee.
This marks the first major administrative reshuffle by the government of Suvendu Adhikari since taking power in the state.
Surya Pratap Yadav has been removed from his position as the SP of Birbhum district and is now assigned as the Joint Commissioner (Administration) of Kolkata Police.
Amarnath K. from Jalpaiguri has been promoted to the position of DIG for the Intelligence Bureau in North Bengal.
Vaibhav Tiwari, the SP of Purulia, has now been appointed as the Joint Commissioner (Armed Police) of Kolkata Police. Pushpa, the Superintendent of Barasat police district, has been transferred to East Bardhaman. Soumaditya Bhattacharya, the SP of Bankura, has been given charge of the Malda Special Task Force (STF).
Chinmay Mittal, the SP of South Dinajpur, has also been transferred. Kumar Sani Raj, the SP of Hooghly Rural, has been assigned to Purulia. Shuvendra Kumar, the Superintendent of Baruipur police district, will now oversee the wireless branch of Kolkata Police.
Ishani Pal, the SP of Diamond Harbour police district, has taken over as the DCP for the southwest region of Kolkata Police. Parijat Biswas, the SP of Bengal STF, has been moved to the enforcement branch. Sayak Das, the SP of East Bardhaman, has also been transferred.
Sudhir Kumar Neelkantham, the DIG of Bengal STF, has been appointed as the Inspector General (IG) of the Counter Insurgency Force (CIF) of West Bengal Police. Shubhankar Bhattacharya, the Joint CP of Armed Police in Kolkata, has been assigned the role of Traffic DIG.
