Gumla, May 15: Three minors escaped from the Silam Juvenile Home in Gumla district, Jharkhand, on Friday by scaling the walls. Among the escapees, two are from Lohardaga district, while one hails from the Ghaghra police area in Gumla.
Reports indicate that two of the minors were detained for serious crimes, including rape, while the third was held for theft. The incident has caused a stir within the district administration. Amar Kumar, the district’s child protection officer and in-charge of the juvenile home, promptly informed local police upon learning of the escape.
He expressed concern that the manner in which the minors scaled the high wall could have resulted in injuries. Currently, all police stations in Gumla and surrounding areas are on high alert, conducting intensive searches at suspected hideouts. The security measures at this juvenile home have long been under scrutiny. This is not the first instance of minors successfully escaping from this facility.
Previous similar incidents have led to the formation of investigation teams and promises for enhanced security. However, Friday’s escape clearly indicates that conditions on the ground remain unchanged. Minors who escape from the juvenile home often attempt to commit crimes again.
Police officials are also reaching out to the families of the escaped minors and are optimistic about their swift recapture. An internal investigation into the security lapse has also been ordered.
