Motihari, August 5: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in East Champaran district have arrested three traffickers with 54 kilograms of cannabis. The operation also led to the seizure of a car, three mobile phones, and ₹10,800 in cash.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Abhishek Kumar reported that the police received a tip-off about a vehicle transporting cannabis from Basantpur village towards Chakia. Following verification of the information, a police team was formed under his leadership, and a swift operation was conducted on the Basa Khurd Soldier Road.
During the operation, two individuals in the car were apprehended. Upon interrogation and search, authorities recovered 54 kilograms of cannabis, three mobile phones, ₹10,800 in cash, and the vehicle itself. The arrested suspects have been identified as Kamlesh Kumar from Ganga Sirisya in the Chakia police area and Sanjay Kumar Tiwari from Muzaffarpur.
Based on the interrogation of the two suspects, police also arrested Vinod Mukhiya from Basantpur. All three are currently being questioned, and investigations are underway to uncover the involvement of others in this illegal trade.
The police have registered a case against the suspects under relevant sections at the Kundwa Chainpur police station. The seized drugs are being processed for legal action. Authorities are working to determine the source of the cannabis and its intended destination.
The police stated that their campaign against drug trafficking in the district will continue, and strict action will be taken against those involved in such illegal activities.
