Sanaa, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : A Saudi Arabia-led military coalition conducted airstrikes in Yemen’s northeastern Marib province on Tuesday, according to reports from Houthi-controlled Al-Masirah TV. This military action occurred just hours after the Houthis claimed to have launched extensive missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia.
The targeted airstrikes focused on the Al-Jubah district, located in the southern part of the oil-rich Marib province. So far, there have been no reports of casualties or damage. Saudi officials have not yet commented on these airstrikes.
Earlier on the same day, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced that their forces had fired numerous ballistic missiles and drones at Saudi Aramco energy facilities in Abha, Najran, and Jizan, as well as the King Khalid Air Base near Khamis Mushait. Saree emphasized that their group would continue operations deep within Saudi territory.
Saudi authorities reported that the Houthi attacks targeted civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jizan, and Najran, resulting in injuries to 73 individuals, including women and children.
According to the Xinhua news agency, the Saudi Energy Ministry confirmed that some energy facilities caught fire, leading to temporary shutdowns of operations.
The tensions have escalated as clashes between Yemeni government forces and Houthi fighters intensify. On Tuesday, government forces claimed they regained control over the Al-Yatma area in northern Al-Jawf province.
Fighting continues on other fronts, particularly in western Yemen, where the Houthis are advancing toward government-controlled areas near the strategically important Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since late 2014 when Houthi rebels seized control of the capital, Sana’a, and large parts of northern Yemen. In 2015, a Saudi-led coalition intervened militarily to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government described the recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia as a “dangerous escalation.”
In a statement released on social media platform X, coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki condemned the Houthis’ increasing aggression, stating that targeting Saudi Arabia and its national assets reflects a “hostile and irresponsible attitude.”
Al-Maliki noted that the recent attacks on civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jizan, and Najran had resulted in injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children. He asserted that these attacks violate Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and pose a direct threat to the safety of its citizens and residents.
He also mentioned that the coalition’s joint forces command would take necessary military measures to counter the Houthi group, respond to threats, and eliminate risks.
