New Delhi, March 24: The Delhi Assembly and Speaker Vijender Gupta received a threatening email on Tuesday morning, warning of a bomb attack on the assembly and a nearby metro station. Upon receiving the threat, the Delhi police and security agencies heightened their alert and initiated a thorough investigation of the entire area.
The first threatening email arrived at the assembly’s official email at 7:28 AM, followed by another one to Speaker Vijender Gupta at 7:49 AM. Both emails mentioned several prominent names, including LG Tarunjeet Singh Sandhu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the Delhi police and other security agencies acted swiftly. They began an extensive search of the assembly premises and surrounding areas. A dog squad and bomb disposal team conducted a detailed examination of the entire assembly area. The police also intensified checks at nearby metro stations to intercept any suspicious items.
Due to security concerns, the assembly proceedings were suspended until 11:30 AM. Officials reported that no suspicious objects had been found so far. However, a high alert remains in place to ensure safety in the area.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is scheduled to present the 2026 budget in the assembly on Tuesday. The bomb threat has caused significant concern, but security agencies have nearly completed their investigation. As of now, no suspicious items have been discovered, allowing CM Rekha Gupta to proceed with her budget presentation.
