New Delhi, May 29: American automotive giant Tesla unveiled its new Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) on Friday in India. The starting ex-showroom price is set at ₹50.89 lakh, with deliveries expected to commence in July 2026.
This launch marks Tesla’s efforts to establish a foothold in the Indian market, where the company has not yet achieved significant success.
According to Tesla, the new variant of the Model Y features an all-black interior. It boasts a large 16-inch touchscreen with enhanced responsiveness in the front row, along with an optional Zen Grey interior theme.
The vehicle offers a storage capacity of up to 2,138 liters and can comfortably seat five passengers with power-folding seats for additional cargo space.
The Model Y can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds and provides a driving range of up to 500 km according to WLTP standards.
Both the Model Y Premium RWD and the six-seat Model Y L have received top safety ratings from several global safety organizations, including NHTSA, IIHS, Euro NCAP, ANCAP, and C-IASI.
Last month, Tesla launched the six-seat Model Y L in India, starting at ₹61.99 lakh.
Isabel Fan, Tesla’s Senior Director, stated, “Tesla’s mission is to create a world of abundant prosperity. We promote the use of electric vehicles by making our technology accessible and providing charging solutions that fit people’s lifestyles.”
Additionally, the company has introduced financing options for the new variant, starting with monthly EMIs of ₹39,990 and a down payment of ₹6 lakh.
Earlier in May, the Elon Musk-backed company opened its first experience center in Whitefield, Bengaluru, marking a significant step in its expansion plans in India.
